In terms of the bombs dropping you had gotten very lucky, living inside of one of the many vaults dotted around America that had been built in case the bombs fell and you had been living inside those lead lined walls content with waiting for civilization to rebuild. However you’d not have that luxury forever as the vault's water chip had broken down, leaving the vault without water and no doubt damning the entire vault to a slow, radiation infused death. After figuring this out you decided that you’d put it upon yourself to go and find the water chip yourself to bring prosperity to the vault.
